John Dread
Voiced by- Martin Davis (information provided by Maxy Steel)
The head honcho, the big cheese, numero uno
scummo. This man is behind ninety percent of the nasty things that happen
to our hero and his entourage. He's the head of the terrorist organization
DREAD, a genius, and an evil mastermind. Dread is an irredeemable villain--
but MAN, he has style.
Not much is known about John Dread. Where
he came from, who he really is, or even the color of his eyes, since he
wears those sunglasses all the time. What is known is that he's a very,
very smart man, capable of controlling a whole host of bloodthirsty whackos.
Currently he's sitting behind bars, cursing Max Steel. But that is obviously
subject to change...
Favorite Moment:
There are so many... I mean, it's DREAD! He
has style, he has class, he has a lot of really good lines. But for sheer
"I'm a bastard" quality, the award has to go to the dissection scene in
"Shattered." Gloating over the soon-to-be corpse of your worst enemy has
never been so cool.
Psycho
Voiced by- Keith Szarabajka
Better known to our heroes as "Smiley," this
guy is our resident "goon with a grudge." He wants nothing more out of
life than to be rich, and to kill Max Steel with his bare hands. And possibly
to torture a kitten or two along the way. Not too much to ask, right?
Psycho is a comparative rarity among villains--
a guy who can both bench press three times his own weight and use "despise"
in a sentence. He's smart, smart enough to formulate and carry out evil
schemes without Dread around... and practical enough to know that sometimes
you just need to shoot the hero and get it over with.
Psycho is currently presumed dead, but he's
kind of like Murdoc on MacGyver, or one of the X-Men-- death is a temporary
condition.
Favorite Moment:
Well, I come back to this scene often... but
I think calmly looking over the dissection tools for use on Max pretty
much takes the cake...
Vitriol
Voiced by- August Paro (information provided by Maxy Steel)
Ah, Vitriol. Now HERE is the mindless lump
of muscle we expect in a lower-level villain. Equipped with bionic arms
that fire laser beams, (or something of that nature,) he nevertheless has
all the intellectual acuity of a brain-damaged Tamagochi. You almost feel
sorry for Psycho, paired with this moron as he often is.
Vitriol's arms detach from his body, a fact
which Dread has used to his advantage on occasion. It also leads to a lovely
image of Psycho hitting him with one...
Currently, Vitriol is sitting in lock-up somewhere,
but he's managed to get out before.
Favorite Moment:
"I just want my ARM..." Funny how all my favorite
moments are coming from "Shattered."
Dragonelle
Voiced by- Mia Korf (information provided by Maxy Steel)
Every secret agent has to have a femme fatale
adversary, and Max Steel is no different. Dragonelle easily fits the bill,
with a skin-tight costume and enough sway to her walk to make you seasick.
Dread's most "loyal follower," according to Smith, she is a master of disguise,
and seems to have a thing for Max. Look, if your dating pool consisted
of Dread, Psycho, and Vitriol, you'd be looking for outside options too.
Currently, Dragonelle is cooling her heels
in prison somewhere.
Favorite Moment:
Flirting with Max in Sphinxes. She's evil.
:)
L'Etranger
Voiced by- John DeLancie
His name means "The Stranger." It's French, and to judge by the accent, so is he. Whether the name has something to do with Camus' famous novel, I have no idea. All we really know is that he wears a mask that resembles a skull, tends to work freelance, and has a fascination for strong women. (More on that in Maggie's Corner.)
His henchmen are all, in fact, women, a fact which doesn't deter Max from beating them up if necessary. Other than running around in a stolen Russian sub, L'Etranger doesn't have any particular MO. He's just smooth and creepy.
Favorite Moment:
"I recall your partner. How is ma chere Rachel?"
"Sharks," when he and Max just begin their faceoff. With one line, he reinforces the impact of his entire conversation with Rachel back in "Strangers" and reinforces his slimeball image to boot.
Woody Barkowski
Voiced by- Jeff Glenn Bennet (information provided by Maxy Steel)
I'm sure some of you are asking what poor,
delusional Woody is doing in the list of Max's enemies... considering,
as Max says, "on my nemesis scale, you barely qualify as comic relief."
Well, I have a couple reasons. One, every list needs some comic relief.
Two, since I'm gonna mention Annabelle, I ought to mention him.
He has no connection with DREAD, probably
because he'd flunk the entrance exam. (VITRIOL passed, to give you a basis
for comparison.) Woody has no useful skills as a villain... or as anything
else, for that matter. He relied completely on the technical abilities
of his sister Annabelle. He was also stark, raving nuts. But it was a funny
nuts. He's so non-threatening, even Max thinks he's pathetic. Woody needs
therapy, preferably administered with a large, anime-style wooden mallet.
I volunteer.
Currently, Woody's whereabouts are unknown,
but they probably include a nuthouse somewhere.
Favorite Moment:
Sharks. "My wrath! Where's my wrath?" *grins*
He's just so... FUNNY!
Electrix
Better known as Annabelle Barkowski, this genius
villainess lives on electricity the same way Max lives on T-Juice. Annabelle
has always had an affinity for electricity-- both of her schemes prior
to becoming Electrix involved control of lightning. Then a Lab Accident(tm)
made her into the live wire we know and love today.
Electrix's main henchmen are, in fact, large
robots, capable of delivering a hefty electric charge to the target of
their choice. They pack only a fraction of the jolt Electrix herself can
muster though, since her electric powers are capable of knocking Max's
nanotechnology off-line... permanently.
At the moment, Electrix is in prison somewhere,
but as we've seen with other villains on this show, that doesn't preclude
her showing up in the future.
Favorite Moment:
At the beginning of "When Lightning Strikes
Twice," when she thoroughly kicks Max's tail. :)
